I'd rather be the ship that sails. My taco-loving- poetry enthused-favorite- Mexican-on-the-block, Evelyn read this poem to me after we got tired of studying bio. One of those readings that hit you hard and you go: "Damn, why am I watching tv, when I can be doing something more productive.. Like.. I don't know. Change the world? Chase my dreams?

It uses the analogy of a boat and basically tells you to strive for what you want because its better to be riding in the waves than to waste your sails on the shore in the sand. So basically, be a Go-Getter. It's titled "The Ship That Sails":

I'd rather be the ship that sails/And rides the billows wild and free;/ Than to be the ship that always fails

To leave its port and go to sea. /I'd rather feel the sting of strife,/ Where gales are born and tempests roar;

Than settle down to useless life/ And rot in dry dock on the shore. /I'd rather fight some mighty wave

With honor in supreme command;/ And fill at last a well-earned grave,/ Than die in ease upon the sand.

I'd rather drive where sea storms blow,/ And be the ship that always failed/ To make the ports where it would go,

Than be the ship that never sailed.

Tommorow belongs to people who prepare for it today.
Fresh Prince teaches me things!

Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today." -Malcolm X

In a Fresh Prince episode,
Vivian tells Will that he can wear the shirts, spit the quotes, and speak about the movement, but unless he studies African-American history, he's trivializing a whole movement.Gold.
